Atlas Moth are actually a great band, not sure what you're talking about.

It's all about perspective.
We don't have the same one.
What I am talking about, is that it's boring pop metal for people who don't actually like metal.
At best they could be a gateway to other music, at which point you would then snap your AM cd in half and throw it away.
It's like how I like Toots and the Maytals and think reel big fish / planet smashers is complete garbage.

Packaged tours.
Generally none of the bands have a say as to who is on it.
Just like at work, you don't get to pick your co-workers.
It's part of business. It annoys me.
But what can you do besides hope that this part of the music industry dies out?

First off, I think you're unnecessarily lumping the Coalesce tour in with the "packaged tour" trend. The show didn't sell out Metropolis or Club Soda, and even if it did, it would have meant a lot of happy kids. Every show can't be a random one-off, there needs to be a degree of organization involved in every tour. Usually bands will get to know each other and make good friends, sometimes not. So from the bands' perspective, you always get new people to hang out and party with. Not sure what's so bad about that.

If packaged tours are indeed engineered to make the most money possible by capitalizing on a certain fanbase, which is true for all kinds of music, what's the worst that could happen, a bunch of kids ending up at the show? If some bands want to book their own dates, they could, but I think bands prefer playing to people than not. Maybe I'm wrong though. Maybe it is fun playing to an empty room.

But you're complaining about a small DIY metal band from Chicago who are opening the show? I think you need to aim your guns in a different direction. Atlas Moth are a pretty weak example if you want to critique packaged tours.

Then you get elitist with the "I'll listen to the originals because the evolution and re-doing of music sucks" stance. Can kids go to a Toots and the Maytals show every few months? No, but they can have a blast at a Reel Big Fish or Planet Smashers show. I'm sure a lot of people there also listen to Toots. There's no need to put the newer generation of bands down to prop up the oldies. Some bands will write music that is truer to their influences, and some will experiment.

For the record I'm a proud listener of what you'd call real metal, fake metal, real hardcore, and fake hardcore. And it's all good. I like Atlas Moth a lot. Black Sabbath were pop metal. I like both bands for different reasons, and haven't yet snapped my Atlas Moth CD in half.

While this show was happening, I was watching an Isreali band jam out these weird semi-nu metal songs

You missed my point entirely.
Your whole argument is fully based on assumption.
You don't have to agree with me.
But don't put words in my mouth.

I don't care how many kids go to a show or who is there.
I know that bands are the last people to make money from their bands.

There are many ways and systems of booking tours and shows.
Lot's bands book their own tours. Despite size or "level" of band.
It's not a necessary evil, but something bands may choose to do delegate to someone outside their band.
They do this because they believe it's a better option for them and because it's industry standard.
Many bands play for the love of music and tour when they can more as a passion.
Other bands decided to make music their living and are bound to making business decisions.
Bands make deals with labels because they want someone to put their record out and enable them to tour.

The music industry is bullshit. Everyone knows it.
It bothers me that it has infiltrated underground music and that people defend the bullshit as unavoidable. So many old networks have died out and been replaced by all of these people trying to make a buck off bands anyway they can.
I think there are better ways of doing it, that don't fuck bands over.

I never mentioned anything about DIY.
Atlas Moth have a lawyer, 2 booking agents, and employ various other people as they proudly display this all on their Myspace.
I have no idea how you would arrive at the conclusion that they are DIY or that I have a problem with all non DIY bands.

What you call elitistism, I call standards.
I didn't make these standards up, I learned them and apply my own critical thinking to it.
When people call types of music fake they mean it fails their standard.
A standard set by tradition and community.
If you reject that standard than why do you care?

I like lots of band for sentimental reasons, I still don't consider them to do something they are not.
Wolves in the Throne room is a perfect example. Neo eco Hippies, who play great music, but don't understand traditionally what the music is about. But I am okay with ignoring that. What a lot of true BM sketchy as fuck anyway.

I think people should use whatever standard they want and enjoy music however they want.
If you don't like my opinion, don't listen to me.

I don't believe that all the great bands are dead and everything after is shit.
People can dig back, understand a sound and context.
Nothing makes me happier than a great new band.
"Corrosion of conformity" wrote a better song for skit what is better than many current hardcore bands write period. Because they understand it in way lots of people fail to. But then you have old bands around from the start, who have entirely lost touch with it.

last of all
I only went to see Harvey Milk and No joy.
I was not disappointed by either bands.
Atlas Moth did nothing to change my view of them.
I gave Coalesce a chance, in my opinion the set was boring and I felt embarrassed for them.
I can compare them to another old band, Leatherface.
They are amazing and still have it all these years.

Michael Jackson is more extreme than Sabbath, automatically making Sabbath pop. And they formed via inspiration from the Beatles who were pop.

I'm shocked that no one mentioned how embarrassing the sound was that night. So I'll do it.
